Every once in a while you’re going to get a ticket and, when you do, you’re going to want a lawyer. This is because New York state has some of the toughest rules and harshest penalties for violating the Vehicle & Traffic laws. Violations include things like speeding (a.k.a. VTL 1180), not moving over for a stopped emergency vehicle (VTL 1144-a), texting while driving (now 5 points!), talking on your cell phone while driving (VTL 1225-c), or an array of other activities. More serious, but related offenses are issued as crimes (as opposed to violations) and can land you in jail or result in the temporary suspension of your driving privileges. Vehicular crimes include things like Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, which is usually the result of a Scofflaw or unanswered ticket / unpaid fine. Transportation Law crimes like Logbook Violations can put professional drivers at risk of losing their job and having a permanent criminal record for a misdemeanor if convicted.

At the Law Office of Ken McCauley, we have had a great deal of success in the Ghent Town Court helping junior license drivers, regular Class D drivers and Commercial, Class A, Class B, and Class C drivers (as well as Taxi cab drivers) avoid points and the high fines that accompany a moving conviction. We plead you NOT GUILTY and guide you through the best course of action depending on the facts of your individual case. Moreover, we handle each and every one of these cases ourselves, and do not farm them out to any outside counsel. You can live a little more stress-free knowing that the attorney who takes your call will be the attorney handling your case from the very outset to its final resolution.

When you hire us, not only do you save time and money but, more importantly, you have the satisfaction of knowing that your case will be handled correctly and the best outcome possible is achieved. In addition, most clients will not have to come to court even in a court that requires personal appearances on traffic hearings. We will attend on your behalf so that you do not have to make the costly journey to a difficult evening court (The Ghent Town Court is a part-time court that convenes at 6pm).

About Ghent, New York

The Ghent Town Court

Like many of the local “justice courts” in Upstate New York, Ghent’s is located in the Town Hall building.

The town of Ghent is located in Columbia County, the beautiful, rural neighbor to Albany County. it is located in the center of the county just northeast of the more popular City of Hudson. Farms and quaint towns and villages dominate the landscape here and visitors use major routes like I-90 and the Taconic State Parkway to travel to and from this area. Speed limits in town limits can be painfully low and test anyone’s patience and risk-reward priority schema (which is where some of our traffic calls come from). DWI and other drug-related crimes are among the other problems here.
